Message difference in total cross sectional area. Increasing the cross sectional area is much more effective in preventing stretch than increasing tensile strength of the bolt, as the modulus of elasticity for different grades of steel is fairly constant.
It's not really as much about putting extra torque on the bolt as it is making sure that the bolts do not elongate under the loads we are putting on them.

There seems to be room for a small diameter increase except for one big issue, the main bolt holes are already very close to the edge of the main journals, because of this it may be impractical to go any larger. Luckily we didn't run into any interference problems with larger head studs.
